You're looking happily deranged.

The Adventures of Pete and Pete is a sleeper. With a casual look I thought it uninteresting. Consequently I ignored it for a long time. The first time I watched it was just to see Larisa Oleynik in a cameo. That episode was called "Dance Fever" and it was a great introduction first because Larisa appeared in it. Secondly because the band Luscious Jackson appeared in it. (I have since become a Luscious Jackson fan.) Michelle Trachtenberg, who I remembered as little Elsie Soaperstein in a Clarissa Explains It All Episode, is also in it. And finally, Iggy Pop appears as Michelle's character's dad. He does a great lounge lizard song. "Dance Fever" is still my favorite. Janeane Garofalo appears in the episode "X Equals Why?"

The stories are wonderfully bizarre and surreal. It's full of great characters: Pete, Pete, Ellen, Nona, Monica, Teddy Foresman, Wayne "The Pain", Pitstain, Endless Mike, Hairnet, and bus driver Stu Benedict. These are my favorites. Stu took a while to appreciate, but in the final episode, "Saturday", his performance is classic. And where else can you see Johnny Earwax and the Up With Personal Hygiene Singers?

Like many things really great, I discover it after it is over. Just when I finally became excited about Pete and Pete, I learned it had been canceled.

The Principal Characters

Pete Wrigley
Pete narrates the stories.
Pete Wrigley
Pete is Pete's younger brother. He's an acerbic little guy. And he almost always wears that red hat. (If you have to ask why these brothers have the same name you will never understand or appreciate this show.)
Ellen Hickle
Ellen is an over achiever.
Nona F. Mecklenburg
a.k.a. Princess Lucky Underpants
Michelle Trachtenberg who plays Nona had the lead role in the the first Nickelodeon movie, Harriet the Spy, and is currently part of the cast of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
Monica Purling
Monica is a Kreb Scout and probably one of the best; she has a lot of merit badges.
Wayne "The Pain" Pardue
Wayne calls himself "Number 1" and he often wears a jersey with that number on it. He has a big crush on Monica.
Teddy Forzman
"What? You didn't know that?"
Fran
a.k.a. "Pitstain" because he has a certain glandular disorder. He is younger Pete's primary nemesis.
Mike Helstrom
a.k.a. "Endless Mike"
